Commemoration of Occasion utilizes a similar working methodology to my previous series Touchmarks of fragmenting existing objects (found souvenir plates), molding and casting (in plastic), and piecing together the re-materialized parts. This re-assembled patch-worked sculpture emphasizes patterns, cultural iconography (Bride/Groom, Indian farmers ploughing, Englishmen riding horses), and ornamentation of the objects that have been sourced. The result is a collection of bric-a-brac that both record and reclaim the objects embedded within while sharing a collective gesture with things that have been stacked, piled, placed, and stored. |
